Curriculum Vitae of Ernst von Glasersfeld
 

1917

Ernst von Glasersfeld is born in Munich with Austrian Citizenship due to his father being an attaché of the Austrian Embassy

 

1927

After spending his childhood in Prague and South Tyrol, Glasersfeld is sent to Zuoz College, Switzerland, at the age of 10

 

1936

Having finished school he studies mathematics, first at Zurich Universiy, then at the University of Vienna

 

1937

Glasersfeld works as a skiing instructor in Australia

 

1939

Shortly before the beginning of World War II, Glasersfeld and his wife move to Ireland, where he becomes a farmer.

 

1947

After World War II's end he moves to Meran (in South Tyrol) where he meets Silvio Ceccato and starts to work as a journalist

 

1963

Glasersfeld is in charge of a scientifical project in artificial speech analysis in Milano

 

1966

The scientifical project moves from Milano to Athens, Georgia (USA)

 

1970

Glasersfeld becomes Assistant Professor at the Department for Psychology at the University of Georgia

 

1971

He studies the possibilities of interaction with primates and therefor developes "Yerkish", a language for use by primates

 

1972

The reading of Piaget finally leads to his Theory of Knowledge, Radical Constructivism, and its specific concepts

 

1972

Together with Leslie Steffe, a psychologist, Glasersfeld designs and executes teaching experiments in mathematics education

 

1987

Glasersfeld retires from his job as a professor for cognitive psychology at the University of Georgia

 

1987

Although he already retired from active work, Glasersfeld remains asissting the Scientific Reasoning Research Institute, University of Massachusetts

 

1991

He receives the Warren McCulloch Memorial Award of the American Society for Cybernetics

 

1997

The University of Klagenfurt confers a honorary doctorate on Glasersfeld

 

2002

Glasersfeld receives the Reconnaissance du mérite scientifique der Université du Québec in Montréal
